Rebecca Kennel originally published the first Hi-lites you are now reading. Businesses buy advertising while organizations & individuals use this avenue at no charge to publicize their events. When Rebecca & Galen moved to Victoria,Carol Francoeur was asked to continue this popular publication. Business advertising assists with paper & copying costs but does not produce a reasonable return for the work involved in its production. If each person taking a copy dropped 25c—50c in the container, that would be a fair return.

The next Chamber of Commerce meeting is Thursday, September 28 at 7:30 p.m at Partners in Worship. All members please attend or send your rep. New members are always welcome—many voices bring more ideas to help keep our community alive & attractive to residents & newcomers.

Thank You

Thank you to the community of Shell Lake for sharing the Gazebo and other facilities with the attendees of the 4th annual Shell Lake "Carve-In" on August 19 & 20, 2006. A special thanks to Bud Dicus and Joyce Skarpinsky for firing up the clay oven on Saturday. The bread and cinnamon buns were delicious! Thanks also to the other volunteers who helped with serving and selling the bread and buns. We really appreciate your taking time for us!

Thanks to Bud Dicus for helping us haul tables over to the Gazebo and for being available to let us into the storage shed to put things away when it was over.

Thank you to those providing accommodations in Shell Lake and the surrounding area and to the Hungry Mann's Diner for managing to keep us all fed.

We had 23 carvers participate this year. They came from Edmonton and Sherwood Park, AB, Winnipeg, MB and various points all over Saskatchewan.

We'd also like to thank all the visitors who took the time to come and browse through the Gazebo to see what we were doing.

Hopefully, we will be back for the 5th annual "Carve-In" in 2007, and would really like to see some of the local carvers join in.

Comments: I would like to send a big Thank you out to Pastor Jensen, the Lions Hall and to Partners in Worship, for all they did for us when we held the Memorial Service for Dad on July 29th. Things always seem to go a bit easier with the help of others, and Shell Lake is just that kind of community. Once again "THANKS" Hope to see you all again soon, under better circumstances. Harry, Debbie and Linda Ohrn.

Name: Barbara A. Kostrzewski kosski@invisimax.com Comments: I am looking for a man named Oliver Eagleback. He is suppose to be living in Shell Lake. Does anyone know this man. He is probably over 80 years old. Thank you

Name: Coreen Spencer (Creary) Comments: We had the opportunity to take my mom up Memorial Hill this summer. What an incredible undertaking with a beautiful outcome. It is a wonderful tribute. It always amazes me, the vision and determination of people in a small town! I don't get back to Shell Lake very often. The town certainly has changed, but I still have a lot of memories of the fun things we did when we were young(er).
