Village of Shell Lake Mayor Update

As I write my last mayor's update, I offer my sincere thank you to the Community of Shell Lake for giving me the opportunity to participate in municipal decisions for the past eight years; five as Deputy Mayor and three as your Mayor. Upon reflecting on projects that have been completed or are in process while on council, several come to the forefront. The completions of the sewage lagoon followed by the recently constructed pumping station were major tasks. Eight new village campsites are presently being constructed for the 2010 season and the process has begun for a new development in the northeast part of the village that will offer twelve large residential lots.

In closing, I offer my deepest gratitude to present council. We have worked well together making municipal decisions that are crucial to the growth and betterment of this vibrant village as it advances into a very bright future. To the next council for their commitment on volunteering to serve on council, I offer my respect.

Mayor, Paula Stalwick

Community/Club Announcements

Shell Lake Legion Branch #15

There will be a cribbage tournament held on Friday, October 2nd at 7 p.m. Everyone welcome.

The September winner of the Lottery 250 was Jordan Uzelman of Saskatoon.

This summer Melissa Ardagh took part in the Legion Track and Field Program that took place at the University of Saskatchewan. She attended the September Legion meeting and was reimbursed for her entry fee. She thanked the Legion and said she learned a lot and enjoyed the camp.

SHELL LAKE 50 PLUS

Because of Thanksgiving the Wellness Clinic will be held on October 5, 2009.

Thank you to Barb Warkentine of Spiritwood who recently spoke at the birthday party, regarding the flu and the vaccinations available.

Shell Lake Curling Club

Due to the fact that our club is declining in league membership and bonspiel entries, the current executive is holding a public meeting on October 17, 2009, at 2:00 pm at the curling rink. We feel that all of our hard work putting the ice in, preparing it weekly for league curling, and preparing it for bonspiels, is not reciprocated with entries. Therefore, in order for the curling rink to continue, there needs to be a new executive, ice makers, building and ice maintenance person. The last public meeting that we held had many people not wanting to see the rink close, but we also have no one show up to our general meetings to help out on the executive and the planning of events. This public meeting is an opportunity for everyone interested to get involved and have their say. If people don't step up, there is only one option left, the rink will close.

Shell Lake Cemetery Committee

Thanks to all who helped clean up in September. We would like to inform everyone that the gates to the cemetery are being locked because we have experienced some vandalism. Some of the solar lights have been broken, pulled out and thrown around. There are four keys - Christine Wollms, Nora Pott, Donna Prafke and one at the Village office so anyone wishing to have gates opened please contact one of these people and they will arrange to have the gate opened.

Thank you
