Village of Shell Lake Mayor Update

Thank you to the citizens that have paid their 2008 taxes, also to the citizens that have paid their tax arrears. Just in the month of September, operating expenses amounted to $26,394.32. Payables were for matters such as: police services; water and sewage testing; wages; SaskEnergy and Power; garbage pickup; phone; postage; fuel; supplies.

Of the taxes collected up to the end of September, $50,453 was submitted to Sask. Rivers School Division for the school taxes.

Property owners who have tax arrears will soon be faced with tax enforcement. Tax arrears weaken the effort to provide the village with sustained growth and viability.

The final date for the 2008 tax payments is December 31st. Village office phone number is 427-2272.

Mayor, Paula Stalwick

Shell Lake Curling Club

Annual meeting on Thursday, November 6 at 7:30 p.m at the Curling Rink. We need everyone out who is interested in curling and ensuring there is ice this year. Many people do not attend meetings because they are afraid of getting put to work but that is what a community is all about working together. Saskatchewan has the highest provincial volunteer rate in Canada and Shell Lake is blessed with many volunteers. See you there!

Shell Lake Minor Sports

Community Outdoor Rink

Although we have not been fortunate to get any grant money for this project as of yet, it was decided that we would start building with the Shell Lake Minor Sports funds. To date the land has been levelled and the posts have been put in. Each weekend work will continue to build what we can for this year and then flooding begins. We will continue to apply for grants so that we can continue construction next year. We will also be doing some fund-raising.

This is a community project with all volunteer work. If you are able to help in any way contact Greg or Joy Ardagh, Hartley Diesen or Larry Morris. We are feeding the volunteers with donations again, if you can assist it is appreciated.

This outdoor rink will be used by many people young and old, by the school, by the weekend residents and visitors so let us all pitch in and help with the work and play!
