NEWS BRIEF

On Saturday, May 23/09 Edwin Fusick, along with his team mates from the 1995 Senior Mens Curling Team (Glen Pryor, Gord Widger and Stan Toporowski) were inducted into Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame. The team won the Provincial title and went on to represent Saskatchewan at the Canadian Championship in St. John, New Brunswick. They lost the very close championship game to Ontario. The team commemorative plaque is on display, along with all the other inductees, at Art Hauser Centre in P.A. Congratulations Eddy - we are proud of you!

Retirement Social

Come to the Shell Lake Lions Hall on June 27th at 7 p.m. (with a short program at 7:30) to help Pat Funk celebrate her retirement. Pat has taught for 31 years, all but one of these in the Shell Lake School.

50th Wedding anniversary

Everyone is invited to attend the 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration for Iris and Harry Miszaniec at the Shell Lake Lions Hall on Saturday, July 25. The program will begin at 7 p.m. with a dance to follow.

Rock Garden

Planting of rock garden and plant pots on Thursday, June 11 at 9 a.m. Anyone is welcome to come out and help.

Shell Lake Housing

Shell Lake Housing Authority will be holding a tea at Schwartz Villa on Wednesday, June 10, 2- 5 p.m. in honor of Lorraine Diesen and Fern Lamontagne. Lorraine, is celebrating 20 years on the board and Fern ten years. All are welcome!

Partners in Worship

Partners in Worship Women's Auxiliary will be holding a Farmer's Market Friday afternoons during July and August. For information or to book a table ($10.00) per week) contact Fay @ 427-4818 or Sandra @ 427-2275. All products must be home made or home grown.

Partners in Worship Yard Sale will be on Saturday, July 4. Donations accepted by Lorraine @ 427-2077 or Sandra @ 427-2275.

Village of Shell Lake Mayor Update

Council's effort in balancing the budget for another year will be summarized this month. An informative town hall meeting will be announced shortly where citizens, committee members and interested parties will be encouraged to attend and hear directly from Council on issues such as village taxes, bylaws and infrastructure with adequate time allotted for open discussion. Look forward to seeing a member from every Shell Lake household at the meeting.

Garbage pickup: A reminder for citizens to place their bagged garbage out for pick up on Tuesdays only. Items such as furniture, lumber, appliances, and metal will not be picked up by the garbage contractor. Grass clippings and branches are handled by Village maintenance and should be placed in clear bags to differentiate from garbage and cannot include any paper products or other garbage. A call should be made to the village office indicating that you have placed out a clear bag of clippings for removal and also if you have larger branches for pickup.

RC Legion Branch #15

Congratulations to the April and May lucky winners of the Lottery 250 Bill Reed and Bessie Sletten.

Many thanks to the teachers and students who helped place the wreaths on the Veteran graves on May 4th .

Legion Zone golf will be held in Shell Lake this year on June 7th.

Shell Lake 50 Plus

The Senior Centre continues the Tuesday and Friday evening card games at 7:30 p.m. Anyone interested is most welcome.

Plan to attend the Senior's birthday party for June 15th at 7:30. Our guest speaker is Jerri Olson, a board member of the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region and she will welcome questions regarding health care.

Two representatives from the Seniors' club are needed to attend the Seniors' Convention in North Battleford June 9,10 & 11. If interested please call Phyllis Johnson @ 427-4727.

Wellness Clinic to be held on June 8th.

Shell Lake seniors' are entertaining at the birthday party being held at the Spiritwood Idylwyld Lodge on June 16th.

Shell Lake Metis

There will be a Pot Luck Supper at the Metis Hall on Aboriginal Day June 21 at 6 p.m.

Please do not bring pickles or store bought pork and beans. Anyone not bringing a donated item will be charged $7.00. Everyone is invited to come.

Shell Lake Museum

The summer museum hours in July will be Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. During Hey days: July 17: 10 - 4 p.m. ; July 18: 9 - 4 p,m. ; July 19: 10 - 4 p.m. August - Saturdays and Sundays 10 - 4 p.m.

September 5 & 6: 10 - 4 p.m.

The museum is in need of volunteers

The museum is in need of volunteers to help out on the days that it is open for viewing. If you are interested in volunteering your time, you may contact Iris Miszanice @ 427-4814.

The Bake Oven has some free weekends; if you or your organization is interested in raising some money, here is an opportunity. You may contact any of board members to book a weekend or a day.

Museum board members are: Bud Dicus, Gerald Erickson, Iris Miszaniec, Bob Prafke, Alfie Haroldson, Lenore Jessop and Joan Calvert.

Thank you to all the board members who came out on Village Clean up day and worked hard to clean up the museum and the museum grounds.

For the Record ...

Birdie Dosdall passed away on May 6/09 in Edmonton. Birdie and Ernie (her husband) used to live in Shell Lake They used to have a general store and also partner ship with Ted Thompson with the Case dealership farm implements. They have 2 sons and 2 grandsons.

Emmie Rae was born on April 14/09 weighing 5 lbs. to Tammy and Jeff Molzan. A sister for Karlee and a granddaughter for Cathy Pelchat and Harold and Marj Molzan.

Benjamin Patrick Murray was born on May 2/09 weighing 9 lbs. 8 oz. to Keith and Keirsty Fines. A grandson for Lila Fines!

The cemetery Committee would like to thank everyone who came out to help clean the cemetery on May 2. A very special thank you to Frank for the use of his tractor. Thanks again and we will see you all again in September!
