Coming Events

40th Wedding Anniversary for Bill and Colleen Reed on June 17 at 2 p.m. at the Reed Farm. Everyone welcome.

Frank & Jean Zawada invite all their friends in the area to join them in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary on June 30th at the Lion's Hall. Buffet between 5 - 8 pm. Program to follow. No gifts.

Selling Out Sale

Selling out sale on June 7 & 8 at the Ada West farm 427-4769, located fourteen miles north of Shell Lake on the grid road to Victoire and Debden.Items for sale include a disk, cultivator, two plastic water tanks, a lot of household items and some antiques.

Garage Sale

Partners in Worship are having a Garage Sale on Saturday, July 1 starting at 9 a.m. at the church. If you like to donate items, bring them the day before or contact Sandra Howard at 427-2275 or Donna Strate at 427-4410.

Golf Tournament

Jack Chaykowski 2nd Annual Friends and Family Invitational Memorial Tournament was held Saturday May 13/06.Seventy-three friends and family gathered to enjoy the beautiful spring day. Whether they were avid golfers or beginners fun was had by all.

The family of Jack would like to give a big thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy this event and make it a huge success. Thanks to our sponsors who also helped in making it all possible.

We had 2 hole-in-one holes prizes, sadly to say no one sank one on either hole. But Mr. Ed Fendelat managed to get an ace on # 10 but was the ladies closest to the pin hole. The lowest score was the team of Frank & Joan Masuskapoe, Larry Ahenakew, and Garvin Bird.

The proceeds totaling $1630.00 were donated to the Canadian Cancer Society in the memory of Jack

Shell Lake Lagoon Lottery

Memorial Lake Regional Park and the Village of Shell Lake have formed a committee to raise funds to assist with the cost of the lagoon upgrading. Tickets go on sale June 1/06 for $120 each. They are available from Committee Members and local businesses. All ticket holders must be at least 18 years of age and residents of Saskatchewan. Prizes - Aug.1/06 - $1,000 & $500 draws; Aug. 16/06 - $500; Aug. 31/06 - $500.00. Monthly draws Sept./06 - July /07 of $1000 & $120.

Heritage Fair Winners

Ashley & Sharla Helgeton, daughters of Melanie and Dave Helgeton and granddaughters of Jim and Ivy Wilson won a Heritage Fair Contest at their school in Kinnciad, SK. Then they went on to Moose Jaw to compete against students from all over Saskatchewan. Ashley won an award for the most outstanding project in Canadian History about the Halifax Explosion. Sharla won top honours for her display on the singer Neil Young. She is now going on to Halifax in July. (Only 3 out of 100 competitors got to go).

Band Award

Bradley Wilson, son of Brenda and Kevin Wilson, grandson of Ivy and Jim Wilson and Christine and late Jim Fraser, plays viola in the Grand Prairie Composite School band. The band travelled to Ottawa in May for band competitions and brought home gold!

Streetscape

We are currently getting quotes for underground sprinklers before we lay the sod. If anyone has experience in this field, we would be happy for some help. Contact any of the members. After that we will be ready to install the lights and benches. Watch for work bee posters!

Shell Lake Metis Local 81

The Trail Ride will be for one day only - June 11/06 Starting at the Metis Hall. Cash prize of a percentage of the entrance fee and some participation prizes. For more information call Christine at 427-4813.

After supper there will be activities for the children - all children are welcome to come and join in the fun. Prizes for winners as well as participation prizes. No meal charge for children under 12.

Chamber of Commerce

Anyone with material for the cabin drop is reminded to bring or send it with one person to assist & payment to PIW church hall Tuesday, June 13 at 7:00 pm. We still need volunteers to deliver bags to Pelican Cove, Echo Bay, & Pebble Bay. Contact Jean at 427 2002 if you are able. Thank you.

We, in all probability will not have the Mud Bog this year. We are inviting organizations to sponsor this event but no luck this far. Contact Linda Caswell at the Esso station to find out what is involved.

The next Chamber meeting is September 28th.

Shell lake Minor Sports

The golf pro will be at Shell Lake on June 9 to provide golf instruction for any ages and any calibre. Adult instruction is also available. Contact Joy Ardagh, or Carol Francoeur to register.

Our fastball season will soon be coming to an end. There are just a couple of games left -Thursday June 15 against Medstead (under 10) against Spiritwood (under 14).

Shell Lake Legion #15

The lucky winner of the Club 200 Lottery was Jeff Kawamura. This was the last draw in this lottery. Watch for new tickets in July.

The Shell Lake Legion invite everyone to attend the rededication of the cenotaph at Memorial Hill, June 17 at 1:30 pm.
The rededication ceremonies will be at the top of the hill so we suggest that you arrive early to make your way to the top of the hill.

Shell Lake Tourism

Mark your calendars for July 1 .We will have our usual wiener roast in the playground area of M.L.R.park followed by musical entertainment, birthday cake and fireworks.

Plans are underway for the 24th annual Homesteader Hey-Days on July 14, 15, and 16. We welcome new events and new entries in the parade. If you have any suggestions talk to one of the committee.

The flower beds have been planted and the banners and hanging flowers will be put in place soon. A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped and who will help with weeding throughout the summer.

CNIB wishes to extend sincere appreciation to the Shell Lake & District Lions Club for their generosity. Funds raised during the Lions Club Annual Walkathon will be used to help CNIB purchase assessment materials for their new Children's Clinic in Saskatoon. Through the purchase of this equipment, CNIB now has the resources to assess the visual functioning of children with vision loss. Thank you Shell Lake & District Lions Club and Participants!

Jack & Audrey Hobman wish to thank the community of Pebble Baye and the Royal Canadian Legion #15 for the moving away parties. Most we would really like to thank the whole community for the friendship shown to us over the past 16 years that we lived at Pebble Baye. We look forward to visiting again soon. Warman isn't that far away.

Kelly Harder and family would like to thank everyone for their help and kindness during his stay in the hospital. A special thank you goes out to the school staff, Dennis and Linda Simonar, Michelle Francoeur, Phillip and Lise Stevens, Rhonda Fusick and the mystery wood donor. Another big thanks to the staff of the Spiritwood Hospital for making the long four week stay as pleasant as possible. Thanks again.

For the Record

Rev. Roy Livingston passed away on May 6, 2006 at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife, Elsie, and 5 children, Doug, Gail, Patty, Brian and Lloyd. Elsie and Roy had a cabin at Pebble Bay for many years but had moved to Saskatoon. Roy was very helpful in guiding us during the joining of the Lutheran and United congregations. Roy and Elsie also helped with the settlement of our refugee family, the Lastros.

Henry Larance passed away on May 18, 2006 at the age of 84.He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Leona, a daughter Esther (Giles) Labelle, three sons, Charlie, Wayne and Andrew (Heather). A daughter, Helen, predeceased him. Henry spent most of his years in and around Shell Lake working as a trucker and in construction .

Comments: Thought I would let the folks around ShellLake know (if there is anyone who remembers Betty Thompson). She passed away at 88 years of age in Saskatoon on April 29.Tadje Thompson and Ernie Dosdall had the Case Dealership in ShellLake years ago.Tadje has passed away also.Tadje and my mom were sister and brother. Hoping to get up to the lake there sometime this summer, usually try to do a ShellLake Tour once a summer. Have a good summer everyone.
