Village of Shell Lake Mayor's Monthly Update

Greg Ardagh, Estelle Dicus and Ed Dyck have put their names forward for the two council positions in the upcoming by-election. I encourage citizens to take time to vote for the candidates of their choice at either the advance poll on Wednesday, July 4th in the library or at the regular poll on Wednesday, July 11th, at the Shell Lake Legion Hall. Check posters for times.

At the July meeting, Council will give the final reading amending the `Noise Bylaw 10/87 to include "the prohibited use of fireworks and firecrackers within the village".

The Village has partnered with the R.M. of Spiritwood and has joined the Regional Fire Department. The one time buy-in cost for this service is $100 per property. Our buy-in portion was offset by the Shell Lake Firefighting equipment as an equivalent monetary investment. An additional maintenance fee will be charged by the Regional Fire Department on an annual basis. This year the fee of $25 per property has been funded through the village's 2007 operating budget. As a reminder, please direct all emergency calls to 911.

Regular council meeting - July 17th.

Village office open Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Office phone number 427-2272.

Comments: I would also like to voice my Pleasure at learning that the School will remain open, and also to Express my Gratitude to the Work and Effort put in to make this happen. One of the many memories I have of the old school was from when I was in Grade three or four. Marcel Lamontagne caught me in the Hallway one recess and he gave me a WHACK, I turned and started running to my home rooom to complain to Mrs. Grace Simonar who was my Teacher at the time, as I lumbered past the Boys Washroom, I ran Smack into Mr. Len LaBrash who was the Principal at the Time. he was quick to take me by the ear and walked me the full length of the hallway, lecturing me every step of the way on the rule of NO RUNNING IN THE HALLS, he then deposited me out the Southl Exit into the yard. I still dream and Scheme of my Ultimate Revenge on Marcel Haaaaaaaa.

Comments: I've just recently returned home to Kelowna, B.C from Arizona. While down south this winter I had occasion to visit, play some golf and spend a few days in Palm Springs with a former Shell Lake resident Duane Dallman and his wife Marilyn from Calgary who were wintering there. Nice to get together with old friends. I was glad to read on the Shell Lake Website that the powers to be have decided not to close the Shell Lake School. After all, if I recall correctly I think the present day unit at one time was called the Shell School Unit. Hi to all in Shell Lake and who reads this newsletter that remembers me.
