Village of Shell Lake Mayor Update

The month of January brings renewal reminders. The municipality requires you to purchase a business license if you run a business from your home. The annual fee is $50.00.

Secondly, if you own a dog, a dog license is required. The cost of the license is $5.00 per dog.

The following is a Bylaw reminder; Village Bylaw states that the use of fireworks and/or firecrackers is prohibited in the village. This Bylaw is in effect regardless of the season.

Let's make garbage pick-up more efficient. If your garbage can't be bagged in appropriate garbage bags, then it should not be placed out for pick-up.

Please note the village office closures as previously posted for the month of January. There will be no council meeting held this month.

Happy New Year, and may happiness and good health be yours in 2008.

Mayor, Paula Stalwick

Shell Lake Tourism

At the Tourism Committees December meeting it was unanimously agreed that they would cease to be a committee. The reasons were many. The most prominent ones - No one to take on the position of treasurer, the burn out of long standing members and the age of the majority of the committee members prevents them from active participation in many projects.

If we lose this organization our town will be losing some very important events. Some of the functions done by the committee :

- prepare welcome packages for newcomers to Shell Lake.

- plan and arrange village cleanup.

- maintain the rock garden (weed, plant, water, etc.)

- plant flowers in and maintain the pots in the planters around town,

- promote and organize Hey Days.

- sponsor Canada Day at the park

Now these are just a few of the items that this committee has done over the years. There must be some interested persons out there that would like to see this committee remain active and not let all this hard work be lost. If you are interested in joining the Tourism Committee and helping out to keep our village alive and attractive please call the Village Office by February 19/08.

Thank you to our Christmas Elves - Ada and Mabel for the very lovely Christmas supper. We enjoyed it very much.

Thank you to the choir for the practice they had at the Villa, it was great.

Another thank you goes out to the pre school children and their teacher for bringing cookies and singing for us. That was very nice.

A huge thank you to all of these special people and the very best to you in the new year.

The Villa Residents.

We have just been so incredibly blessed spending our Christmas week this year up at Shell Lake. The hoarfrost was just gorgeous!! We so enjoyed seeing church family in both the Partners in Worship Church on Christmas Eve and at Mont Nebo church. We want to thank Merv Dust for blessing our family with a sleigh ride through his pasture. We really enjoyed showing our family and friends the beautiful display of lights up on the hill outside of Shell Lake - WOW! What work that wonderful lady goes to every year and blesses others with her passion. Thank you!!

Also, I just wanted to mention that God has been so good - OVER 10,000 of my calendars have been sold for 2008 - the ones that feature Shell Lake/ Memorial Lake area. Thank you for encouraging me and supporting me in this first venture of creating calendars with photographs that God has blessed me with. I will be starting the work on the 2009 calendars next week. I look forward to sharing them with you once they are complete. Feel free to contact me at lisaspics@sasktel.net to order your calendars or with any questions you may have. God bless you all in 2009!
