Cutting the ice with a chain saw |
Shell Lake, Saskatchewan, February 3, 2004 - This is our first attempt at harvesting ice and hosting an ice carving event. The blocks are about 12 inches wide, 21 inches thick, and 8 feet long. Thanks to the helpers: Kurt Reed, Bill Reed, Don Dobrowolski, Trevor Simonar, Brett Prafke, Ryan Prafke (you did help, right?), Harold Perry, Doug Johnson, Sam Funk, Galen Kennel. Photographer and coach, Rebecca Kennel. The ice carving took place at the Gazebo on Saturday, February 7 (see photos below). |

Saturday, February 7, 2004 - Here the blocks are set up at the gazebo, ready for carving. The temperature is just below freezing, the sky is partly cloudy - not a bad day to be carving! As the carvers arrive, they select the blocks that they want to use and everyone gets to work! None of the artists had ever carved ice before. Now we're all hooked on ice carving! If you are interested in being informed of the event next year, |

Doug and Eileen Johnson, who dropped by and didn't mean to stay the rest of the afternoon. . . with their fish. Doug had taken some ice home and experimented with turning ice on his wood lathe (far right) - Kristen Caswell takes a drink from the goblet. |
