Coming Events

A Concert

DRY BRANCH FIRE SQUAD, a North American Favourite for over 30 years. Sunday February 7, 2010 _ 7:30 p.m. E. A. Rawlinson Centre Prince Albert. Tickets $20.00 each, students $10.00. www.errawlinsoncentre.ca or phone 765-1270 or 1-866-700-ARTS

A native of southwest Virginia, Ron Thomason founded the Dry Branch Fire Squad in 1976. To date, the band has recorded over twenty-one projects and performed at the most prestigious acoustic music venues and festivals in North America. Currently working with Rounder Records, most bluegrass observers agree that Dry Branch's line-up is one of its strongest ever. In addition to Ron Thomason on mandolin, guitar and lead vocals, other group members are: Brian Aldridge on guitar, mandolin and harmony vocals; Tom Boyd on banjo, dobro and harmony vocals; and Danny Russell on bass and harmony vocals.

Musically, their starting point is classic bluegrass, to which they add a wide-ranging repertoire of vintage and contemporary sources. These guys have been playing bluegrass stages for a long time. Thomason's droll "country bumpkin" (but not really) monologues are also a big part of the band's show. Audiences are not only filled with the emotions that stimulated the creation of bluegrass and mountain music but are also given a taste of the culture from which this music evolved.

Village of Shell Lake Update

Congratulations to Anita Weiers our new Mayor!

The village is looking into purchasing the school. We have asked our residents for input and we also welcome input from the community. There have been many good suggestions and some concerns. Some of the suggestions - moving our existing village office, using the gym for village shop, new library space, a space for our exercise equipment, using classrooms for farmers markets, crafters, etc. many good ideas! Some of the concerns - cost to maintain a building like this, insurance, heat, etc. If you have ideas or concerns send them in; we are open to suggestions.

Reminder to the village residents to have your garbage out by 10 a.m. on Tuesdays.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, feel free to stop in or call the Village Office at 427-2272. I am open Tuesday to Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and closed for noon. Tara Bueckert, Administrator

CHURCHES

Partners in Worship

Sunday worship and Sunday School at 10 a.m.

The first Sunday of each month will be Family Sunday at Partners in Worship. Worship will be very different on these days. We will still pray and hear from the Bible, but worship will be more like the Vacation Bible School programs of the summer. We will sing different songs and we will move to the music. We will talk to each other during church. We want everyone to have a joyful time in church. We are inviting all young families to come and join in the fun as we learn about our God's love.

Roman Catholic Church

Mass for the winter months, beginning November, will be in Spiritwood on Sundays at 11:15 a.m.

Evangelical Free Church, Mont Nebo

Sunday school at 10 a.m. and church service at 11 a.m.
