Village of Shell Lake Mayor Update

Welcome to Philip Bueckert who has taken on the responsibility of day to day village maintenance. Kurt Reed will continue as the certified water and sewage monitor for the village.

Note that regular council meetings continue to be held every third Tuesday of the month. A printing error in this year's Legion calendar states otherwise.

Reminder that January was the month to renew or obtain a business license for the year. Please check with the village administrator for the fee that is payable for your business.

Citizens and visitors need to keep their pets on a leash. Pets running at large will be subject to impoundment.

Community/Club Announcements

Shell Lake & District Chamber of Commerce

The next chamber meeting will be held on Thursday, February 5 at 7:30 in the Village Office. Everyone welcome to attend.

Shell Lake Curling Club

The open bonspiel was held on January 23 & 24 with 6 rinks entered. We would like to thank Lynn Schutte for the organization and supervision of the kitchen and preparing a wonderful supper for the curlers and the public. Thank you to Greg Ardagh for looking after the ice for the open. Thank you to all the volunteers who assisted in many ways.

Mark your calendar for the Ladies Bonspiel February 27 & 28 and March 1. Enter as a team or individual to Joy @ 427-2044 or Della @ 427-4548. We always have a good time make sure you don't miss out.

The rink is open Wednesday evenings. We would like to see both sheets used not just one. Come out and join in the fellowship of curling. If we don't have more interest the question is raised why are we making ice? Fees are $70.00 or $10.00 per game.

Shell Lake Minor Sports

Kids curling is in full swing. We have had eleven children out each week. It is great to see them have fun and learn the basics of curling. It is not too late to join if your child has not been able to make it yet. The fee is only $10.00

Community Outdoor Rink

The kids are skating and seem to be enjoying this recreation. We do not have lights this year so we are limited to daylight skating. Make sure your family gets a chance to get out and try the new facility. A family user fee has not been established for this year but donations can be made to the Shell Lake Minor Sports.

Thank you goes out to the people who cleaned off the rink and flooded the rink to get it going. Aaron Ried, Don Garand, Larry Morris, Greg Potts, Greg Ardagh put on the first soakings. Greg Potts, Val Chaykowski, Keith Simonar, Tyrone Pott have cleared the snow off many times. The flooding has been done by Tyrone Pott, Ian Pott, Daniel Hillman and Trevor Shynkaurk. It is good to see people out and helping but remember this is your rink and we all need to do our part.

We are looking for a few of the items borrowed from the arena over the last few year ie. nets, hot flood, etc. If you have or know of the whereabouts please return to shack beside the outdoor rink.
