We still have no mayor and unfortunately if no one comes forward the minister will appoint one for our village.
We would like to remind all our village property owners about how many recreational units can be stored on one's property, only one recreational unit per lot. We do have a bylaw in place regarding recreational units.
If anyone has any questions or concerns, feel free to stop in or call the Village Office at 427-2272. I am open Tuesday to Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and closed for noon.

We held our Potluck Supper, Registration Night, and Annual General Meeting, on November 21st and had a good turnout of people. The food was fabulous, thanks to everyone who came. We had a good start on numbers for our league membership for the Saturday night league curling, so we have officially decided to put ice in for the 2010 season of curling. We ask anyone who could not attend but wants to curl, please enter your name or team by December 15th with Della at 427-4548. We are also making up a sub list which will be available to anyone that cannot make it and it is each curler's responsibility to find a replacement. Anyone wanting to be placed on the sub list can contact Della. We would like to have the teams organized before Christmas as our first night of curling will start on January 2, 2010. We are pleased to announce that we have hired an ice maintenance person. There is still a lot of work to be done before the rink is up and running and we are asking for volunteers to help put the ice in. They can contact Dennis Simonar at 427-2080. We are planning on having the ice in by December 20th, so if anyone is interested in renting the rink over the Christmas holidays, they can let us know. We are having a few bonspiels this year, which includes an open, ladies, and seniors; watch for posters and dates. It is also Shell Lake's turn to host Legion curling on January 9th, so please come out and watch the action!! Our new club President is Jim Marks and the Vice President is Dennis Simonar. If anyone has any questions or concerns, feel free to contact either of them.
The 2010 Birthday Calendars are here! They can be picked up at Dicus' home.

I am looking for links to my father's immediate family who lived in Shell Lake around 1931. They immigrated from Odense, Denmark in 1927 to Canada as a family.
Sigvald and Anna Marie Olsen where my parents, children: Max Laurence , Leo Henry (my father) Alf Louis, Edel Ruth, Joanna , Christian and Antony.
I understand that the parents died suddenly in Shell Lake in 1931 or thereabouts which led to the break-up of the family. I understand that the younger children were taken into some sort of foster care/orphanage which may have been in the Shell Lake area. My father (Leo) lost contact with his family at this time and subsequently migrated to New Zealand and sadly passed away this year, aged 92.
I have been searching genealogy websites to find birth/death records or other links with little success apart from their arrival in Canada in 1927. Please would you let me know if there are any cemetery records, any ideas on where the children would have gone, or people I may be able to contact for information that would help in my search?
I am very keen to make contact with someone on his side of our family and would really appreciate your help.
Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you.
