Shell Lake School Closure

A motion has been made by the Sask Rivers Board of Education for the possible closure of the Shell Lake School in August, 2007. There will be a public meeting of the electors with the board at the school on December 7 at 7 p.m. This meeting will be a chance for the board and the community to meet to discuss this matter further. Everyone in the community is encouraged to attend.

Coming Events

Benefit Dance

There will be a benefit dance for Dave and Donna Nelson due to the burning of Dave's Shop. December 8 starting at 9:00 in the Shell Lake Lions Hall. Admission $10.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door with a midnight lunch ages 12 and under are free.

Santa Day

The Shell Lake Co-op staff invite all youngsters to their Santa Day on December 9 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Come see Santa and if you wish have your picture taken with Santa for $2.00 and receive a special treat.

Christmas Social

The Community Christmas Social will be held on Saturday December 9, 2006 at the Lion's Hall starting at 8 p.m. Anyone wishing to donate a "Silent Auction" item can drop it off at the Village Office or Northern Sask. Tourism Office by Dec. 5/06. Everyone welcome!

Shell Lake Co-op

Friday, December 15 will be the Equity/Member Day at the Co-op. Members only will receive 20% off the regular price of their Christmas purchases.

Mayor Update

Thanks to Clint Mann and Carol Francoeur for volunteering to serve on council. There are still two vacant seats to fill, the notice to `Call for Nominations' will be posted this month. Please consider coming forward and serving on council. It offers you the opportunity to significantly influence the quality of life in our community.

Our newly built sewage lagoon is now in use, with final touches to be completed this coming spring. Thanks to everyone who is working toward paying off our debt for this structure.

The Village Office will be closed on Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Dec. 27/06 and will reopen on Tues. Jan. 2/07. Taxes and utility payments will be honoured if post marked on or before Dec. 30, /06.

The PWWA thank everyone; those who donated items, those who made cash donations, the auctioneers, those in attendance who purchased items at our annual fall auction & those who assisted in any way to raise over $3000. We appreciate your support. Our wish is for everyone to enjoy a Merry Christmas & peace in the New Year.

Shell Lake Chamber of Commerce

Our wish for all residents of Shell Lake and area is that the Christmas season be merry and filled with happiness in the New Year.

Shell Lake & District Lions Club

On Saturday November 11 the Shell Lake and District Lions Club held their 28th Annual Novemberfest evening at the Shell Lake Lions hall and the "greatest salad bar" anywhere. The "Elimination Lottery" rewarded 9 winners with a $30.00 ticket refund. First ticket out and winner of $70.00 -Sonja Neilson, Spiritwood Lioness Club . The last five remaining ticket holders shared $1200.00. Three of which won $50.00 each. The final two winners, John Duncan of Shell Lake and Marcel Lamontagne of Shellbrook shared the final prize of $1050.00 each receiving $525.00. Music for the dance that followed was performed by Rod Gjerde & Guild. Rod and the band kept several of our younger crowd here until the WEEE hours of Sunday morning. We were pleased to see a good participation from our younger residents this year. This evening has now been recorded as a success and the Shell Lake Lions Club take this opportunity to thank all who attended and supported our club. Thank you to all the current and past Shell Lake Lions Club members that have worked so hard over the last 28 years to keep this event the success that it has become. Lion Anne Wilson and Lion Nel Heckel would like to thank all the Lions and non Lions ladies for their excellent help and support in preparing the supper, providing veggies and decorating the hall. Thank you to all the non Lions members in our community that have, over those same years given of their time and talents to help out our members with Novemberfest and many other club events.

The next important Shell Lake Lions Club event will be the 4th "Pasta Night Supper and Show" on Saturday April the 28/07 at the Shell Lake Lions hall. This year's professional performance will be presented by Mr. Martin Janovsky. This fundraiser's proceeds will be go to the Village of Shell Lake's sewage lagoon construction project. We look forward to your attendance and support for the Shell Lake Village council's capital costs commitments to the lagoon project and continued support of your Shell Lake Lions Club community projects.

Shell Lake 50 Plus

The monthly meeting/pot luck supper was held with a very good turnout despite the fact that it was a stormy Saskatchewan night. Major topic of discussion was the Seniors Christmas Party to be held on Dec 3rd at the Lions Hall.This is open to all members or anyone who is 65+ years of age. Cost is $10.00 each for a traditional Christmas supper served at 6 p.m. Program to follow. Annual Saskatchewan Hospital trip for the bingo game with the patients took place on Nov 21. Seniors who made the trip included Fern & Loretta amontagne,Mabel Hotvedt,Aida West,Anita Weiers,Sally Hutchkowski, Doug & Gerri Solinger. Many thanks to all. Wellness Clinic (Schwartz Villa) to be held Dec 11. There will be no meeting/pot luck supper for the month of December. SEASONS GREETINGS TO ALL & HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Shell Lake Legion

The lucky $100.00 winnter of the Lottery 200 ticket was Thelma Bazley of Canwood.

Donor's Choice

Shell Lake Donors Choice sheets have been mailed out with extra copies at Shell Lake General Store. For taxable receipts for 2006, please submit your sheet along with payment as soon as possible. Payment made to Shell Lake Donors Choice and can be dropped off at the Shell Lake General Store.

For the Record. . .

Born to Kevin & Charlene Rush of Calgary, on Nov 11/06, a daughter, Grace Lynn. A sister for Britain and a granddaughter for Corrie Rush-Battersby and Richard Battersby.

Carl Erickson passed away on Oct.30/06 at the age of 102 and would have been 103 on Dec.9th. His memory will be cherished by his daughters Doris Ahlquist and Clarice Kardash, 12 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. Carl's wife, Annie, passed away in 2001. Erickson Drive in Shell Lake was named for Carl on his 100th birthday.

Russell Brettle passed away on Nov.2 /06 at the age of 71 years. He leaves to mourn his wife Edith and sons Henry, Glenn (Dora), and Beverly (Bev), and their families.

Eldean Laughren passed away on Nov. 15/06 after a short battle of cancer at the age of 59. She leaves to mourn her husband Gary and daughters.

We would like to thank our family for the lovely supper we enjoyed at Hungry Mann's Diner in honour of our 60th Wedding Anniversary.
