Shell Lake Community Hi-litesThe Memorial Lake Ice Fishing Derby put on by the Shell Lake Volunteer Fire Department was held on March 7. This year there were sixteen fish caught, with the three biggest fish being Northern Pike. The biggest fish worth $5000.00 was caught by Owen Day of Shell Lake. The second largest fish was caught by Ernest Petersen from Naicam who took home the $2000.00 cheque. Lawrence Garand of Saskatoon had the third largest fish worth $1000.00 and also caught the first fish of the day worth $100.00. The Junior fisherman prize of $50.00 was won by Christopher Robinson of Spiritwood.
Once again it was a very successful event, netting nearly $9000.00 which will be put towards equipment. The Fire Department would like to thank the many volunteers who helped out before, during and after this day. Also a big thank you to our 54 major sponsors, and to everyone who donated merchandise prizes. Without all of your help and support, we could not make this fish derby happen.
